Criminal justice in crisis

A conference addressing critical issues of criminal justice in Scotland and the UK.

As the UK general election draws near, evidence suggests that discussions on crime and justice are intensifying, marked by increasingly punitive rhetoric from politicians vying for popular support.

This heightened focus could put the implementation of progressive policies at risk, overshadowing conversations about discrimination and inequality, and exacerbate crises in other parts of the system, like the prisons and courts.

Join this conference, where we address four critical and cross-jurisdictional concerns, including,

  • Understanding and preventing anti-social behaviour and knife crime
  • Racism and misogyny in policing and impacts on practice
  • The processing of gender-based violence in the criminal justice system
  • Prison overcrowding and impact on prisoners’ human rights

By bringing together several expert panels, the RSE will explore what must be done now, what should be done in the medium term, and what could be done in the long term.
