The Royal Society of Edinburgh condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We express our solidarity with the people of Ukraine, with our colleagues in Ukrainian Universities, and with our sister organisation the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine1. We applaud the courage of the scientists and researchers in Russia who have signed the open letter against the war2.
We call on the UK and Scottish Governments to welcome Ukrainian refugees and scholars at risk from Ukraine and Russia, on Scottish Universities and Colleges to extend support to scholars at risk coming from affected countries, and on all our Fellows to give whatever assistance they can to refugees and colleagues suffering from the current war.
