Wind, water and waves

Dumfries and Galloway has such a rich natural heritage. The waterways and climatic conditions have long played a key part in the economy, culture, history, landscape and regeneration of the region.

As part of the RSE @ Dumfries and Galloway project, this lecture explores the importance of wind, water and waves to Scotland.

How will recent developments in renewable energy technology help us achieve carbon reduction targets? Professor Geoffrey Boulton OBE, Grant Institute of Geology, Edinburgh University explains, “Dumfries and Galloway’s landscape and natural heritage is an important resource in the drive to increase renewable energy production and lower Scotland’s carbon footprint. It is important that its development is managed properly, recognising and harnessing the contribution it can make in a way that benefits local communities and is sustainable for the future”.
