Our approach to early education and childcare is of both symbolic and practical significance. It is suggestive of the type of nation to which we aspire, and delivers the foundation for how that can be achieved. In this presentation, we reflect on where we are at, where we are headed and – in light of the realities of contemporary policy priority and social conditions – appraises the prospects for strengthening and transforming Scotland through early education and childcare.

This video was part of the RSE’s early years conference, which focused on placing the needs of children, their being and belonging, at the heart of early learning.
The conference took a comprehensive look at placing the needs of children at the heart of their learning, rather than focusing on early learning and childcare as a means to an economic or practical end.
