A celebration of women in astronomy

When trying to understand women’s progress, or lack of progress, in research and academia, society is often quick to blame women themselves, particularly when it comes to male-dominated subjects like astronomy. However, data studies have shown how culture and history may have had an influence.

Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell focuses on the contributions to modern astronomy made by some unsung and under-sung female astronomers of the last 100 years. She also reflects on the position of women in astronomy today and how it might be made more equitable.
