Professor Steven Nolan received his BSc in Chemistry from the University of West Florida and his PhD from the University of Miami. After a postdoctoral stay with Professor Robin J Marks at Northwestern University, he joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of New Orleans in 1990. In 2006 he joined the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) as Group Leader and ICREA Research Professor. After moving to the University of St Andrews in 2009, Steven left Scotland in 2015 to take up a position at Ghent University. His group develops novel organometallic complexes capable of mediating homogeneous catalytic reactions. They investigate fundamental complex properties such as bond energies and structural properties, as well as steric and electronic ligand characteristics, in order to design more efficient/robust catalytic systems.
