Dr Silvia Paracchini FRSE

Royal Society University Research Fellow, University of St Andrews.

Dr Silvia Paracchini’s research explores how genetic factors contribute to neurodevelopmental conditions such as dyslexia and language-related disorders. She runs large-scale screenings as part of international projects and then uses a range of biological models to understand the underlying molecular mechanisms. Through this approach, she has contributed to the current understanding of how genetics contributes to handedness and the potential role of these factors in neurodevelopmental conditions. In addition to her research program, Silvia leads the St Andrews Bioinformatics Unit and is an active member of the Young Academy of Scotland. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology.
