Professor Seth Garran Niels Grant FRSE, FMedSci

Professor of Molecular Neuroscience, University of Edinburgh.

Professor Seth Grant is a neuroscientist who has pioneered our understanding of the molecular basis of behaviour. Using genetics and proteomics, he has identified many genes and proteins that control nerve cell plasticity and learning. His research has revealed that synapses – the junctions between nerve cells – contain hundreds of proteins organised into molecular machines called complexes. Seth joined the University of Edinburgh in 1994 after postdoctoral fellowships at Columbia University and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. In 2011 he was appointed Professor of Molecular Neuroscience at Edinburgh.
