Professor Sara Carter is an expert in entrepreneurship research, whose work concentrates on three main areas. First, issues relating to agricultural restructuring and rural development, assessing farmers’ capabilities in adjusting to policy liberalisation and their role in rural economic development. Secondly, the everyday experiences, attitudes and practices of small business owners with regard to how they perceive business ownership. Thirdly, exploring the specific issues relating to gender and entrepreneurship, paying specific attention to the acquisition of business finance. More recently, her work has focused on the incomes, wealth and economic well-being within the entrepreneurial household. Sara received an OBE in the 2009 New Year Honours list for services to women entrepreneurs.
