Professor Thomas Copper has over 43 years’ experience as a visual artist and is influenced by the landscape, historical and cultural geography, cartography and the problems of picture-making. He has spent the last 23 years working on a long-term sea project, titled ‘The World’s Edge – the Atlantic Basin Project – An Atlas of Emptiness and Extremity’, which involved making and assembling a large, thematic body of work, that is developed out of the physical act of visually and pictorially mapping the cardinal extremes immense described as the Atlantic Basin. Thomas founded the Glasgow School of Art Fine Art Photography Department in 1982 and is currently Head of Department.
