Professor Tara Brendle
Professor of Mathematics, University of Glasgow
Professor Tara Brendle works in topology and group theory, with particular expertise in braid groups and mapping class groups of surfaces; these are algebraic structures that encode various symmetries of two-dimensional spaces. Braids are a special case that describe the motion of point-particles in a plane, a model for the space of roots of polynomials, and as such braids appear across mathematics in fields including number theory, knot theory, geometry, and mathematical physics. Tara has also served as a member of the Scottish Government group Making Maths Count since 2015.
