Professor Sir Peter Mathieson
Principal and Vice-Chancellor, University Of Edinburgh
I grew up in Cornwall, the first member of my family to go to university, spent 30 years mixing clinical medicine, medical research and teaching and eschewing administrative responsibilities, then successively worked as Dean of Medicine & Dentistry in Bristol (2008-14), President of the University of Hong Kong (2014-18), and have been in Edinburgh since early 2018. I care about the excellence of the university’s contributions in teaching, research, social & economic responsibility and about making it accessible to all. Universities can and should transform lives and societies.
