Professor Sarah Coulthurst
Professor of Microbial Interactions, University of Dundee
Sarah Coulthurst is Professor of Microbial Interactions in the School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee. She holds MA, MSci and PhD degrees from the University of Cambridge and conducted postdoctoral research in Cambridge and then at the University of Dundee. She established her research group at the University of Dundee in 2009, supported by a Royal Society of Edinburgh Personal Research Fellowship, and since 2015 she has held a Wellcome Senior Research Fellowship. Her research aims to understand the molecular mechanisms and importance of competitive interactions between bacteria, the anti-bacterial toxins used during these interactions, and the protein injection systems that bacteria use to deliver toxins and other proteins into neighbouring cells. She hopes that the knowledge gained will ultimately inform the development of new antimicrobial strategies.
