Professor Ryan Gilmour

Ryan Gilmour (b. 1980) received a Masters degree in Chemistry with Advanced Chemistry from the University of St Andrews where he worked with Prof. Dr David O’Hagan FRSE. He received his PhD from the University of Cambridge under the direction of Prof. Dr Andrew B. Holmes FRS. Following research stays at the Max Planck Institute (Mühlheim/Ruhr, Germany) with Prof. Dr Alois Fürstner and the ETH Zurich (Switzerland) with Prof. Peter H. Seeberger, Gilmour was appointed as Alfred Werner Assistant Professor of Synthetic Organic Chemistry at the ETH Zürich in 2008. In 2012, moved to the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU Münster) where he is Chair of Organic Chemistry and CiMIC Professor of Chemical biology. His research has been recognised by a number of awards including the Ruzicka Prize of the ETH Zürich, and ERC Starter and Consolidator Grants. He has held visiting professorships in the UK, USA and Israel. These include the Allergan Lectureship at the University of California, Irvine (USA) and the 2020 Prof. David Ginsburg Memorial Lectureship at the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Gilmour is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and was elected as a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2021.
