Professor Ronald Roberts
Emeritus Professor, University of Stirling
Ronald Roberts is a Veterinary Pathologist who has specialized in the development of a corpus of pathology for teleost fishes. His early work at the University of Glasgow provided the basis for his standard textbook ‘Fish Pathology’ which is in its fourth edition and ten languages.
With the assistance of a Foundation Grant he established the Institute of Aquaculture at the University of Stirling and directed it for 25 years, building it into the world’s largest Aquaculture Research Institute.
He led the UN Mission investigating a pandemic fish disease across South East and East Asia (1980-86) and defined the causative agent.
He retired in 1996 and subsequently served on UFC, EFSA and FCO Committees, acted as Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Idaho and as non-executive director of several companies. He was Decorated with the Order of the Crown of Thailand by HRH King Bhumibol Adulyadej for his services to ASEAN Fisheries Science.
