Professor Roland Ibbett
Emeritus Professor of Computer Science, University Of Edinburgh
Roland Ibbett retired in 2006 as an Emeritus Professor of Computer Science of the University of Edinburgh, where he was head of the Computer Science Department from 1987 to 1995 and a University Vice-Principal from 1994 to 2000. His research interests have always centred on computer architecture. Before moving to Edinburgh in 1985 he was a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and then Reader in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Manchester, where he was a major contributor to the MU5 computer project. At Edinburgh he led the development of a computer architecture simulation environment that has been used for numerous research and teaching projects.
