Professor Richard English

Professor Richard English has been Pro-Vice Chancellor for Internationalisation and Engagement and Professor of Politics at Queen’s University Belfast since 2016. Before this, he was Wardlaw Professor of Politics and Director of the Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV) at the University of St. Andrews. Richard’s work focuses on political violence and terrorism, nationalism and the state, and Irish and British history and politics. He is the author of 8 books on the subject including the award-winning ‘Armed Struggle: The History of the IRA (2003)’ and ‘Irish Freedom: The History of Nationalism in Ireland (2006)’.
