Professor Philip Best
Professor of Extragalactic Astrophysics, University of Edinburgh
Professor Philip Best has an international reputation in the field of extragalactic astrophysics. His research focuses on understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies across cosmic time with a particular interest in the most massive galaxies which contain super-massive black holes at their centres. More broadly, his research encompasses the wider capabilities of radio astronomy, leading the development of next-generation radio astronomy facilities. Philip first joined the University of Edinburgh in 2000 and has been the Head of the Institute for Astronomy since 2018.
