Professor Nicola Stanley-Wall
Professor of Microbiology, University of Dundee
Professor Nicola Stanley-Wall studied for her PhD at the John Innes Centre, where she was involved in analysing the twin arginine transport pathway in Escherichia coli. As a postdoctoral scientist, following a move to the University of California, Los Angeles, she started working on Bacillus subtilis biofilm formation. In 2005, Nicola moved to the University of Dundee to start her independent research career and progressed to be appointed Professor of Microbiology in 2015. She is a strong advocate for engaging the public in research and enjoys thinking about the varied questions children and adults ask regarding how biofilms form.
