Professor Natascha Gentz
Director, The Confucius Institute for Scotland
Professor Natascha Gentz (Vittinghoff) received her MA and PhD in Germany at Heidelberg University and studied in Shanghai, Beijing and Tokyo. Her research interests are Chinese media studies, including the history of Chinese journalism; global knowledge transfer in the 19th Century; and how globalisation of media is shaping cultural identities. Natascha also works on Chinese historical and contemporary drama and loves translating, if time permits, and translated a novel and two volumes of short stories by the Chinese Nobel Laureate Gao Xingjian. Keen on introducing academic expertise to the non-academic community, she has organised a variety of cultural events on China, from drama performances and film festivals to exhibitions in Scotland.
