Professor Nancy Reid

Professor Nancy Reid is a statistical scientist with a particular interest in the foundations and theoretical aspects of inference. Her overarching research goal is to develop theory that leads to accurate and efficient methods of statistical analysis, which in turn allows researchers in many fields to exploit the full potential of their data. She retains an abiding interest in the public perception and understanding of statistical ideas and in 1992 was the first woman and first resident-Canadian to receive the Presidents’ Award of the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies, one of the most prestigious international awards in statistical science. Nancy is also actively engaged in statistical leadership and in 1997 was President of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and of the Statistical Society of Canada in 2004 – 2005.
