Professor Mike Barrett
Professor of Biochemical Parasitology, University of Glasgow
Alongside his role as Professor, Professor Michael Barrett is the Director of Glasgow Polyomics and a member of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Molecular Parasitology at the University of Glasgow. Michael is interested in microbial biochemistry with a view to understanding how antimicrobial drugs work and how microbes become resistant to drugs. He became interested in this subject after an exhibition to the Usambara Mountains in Tanzania in 1985 and viewing the inequalities in health. This inspired him to carry out a PhD in Parasitology and has continued in this area since.
