Professor Michele Burman

Professor Michele Burman is a criminologist and current Head of the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow. She is also the founding Co-director of the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research, a research collaboration between the Universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling and Strathclyde which develops and produces research that critically informs criminal justice policy and practice in Scotland and internationally. Michele’s research interests and published works focus on criminal justice, feminist criminology, gender-based violence, and youth crime and youth justice. She is currently Co-Editor-in-Chief of the international journal ‘Criminology and Criminal Justice’ and has a longstanding association with feminist movements and campaigns which raise awareness of gender-based violence.
