Professor Michael Lean
Consultant Physician, Glasgow Royal Infirmary
Professor Lean has been Professor of Human Nutrition and a Consultant Physician at the University of Glasgow since 1993 and currently holds Visiting and Adjunct Professorships at the Universities of Otago and Sydney. After receiving medical training, primarily in Aberdeen and Cambridge, he went on to hold a research position at Dunn Nutrition Laboratory and received a Leverhulme Scholarship to the University of Colorado, USA, in 2002. Professor Lean spent eight years as Non-Executive Director of the Health Education Board of Scotland and Chaired the UK Food Standards Agency Advisory Committee on Research. Awards include Diabetes UK’s Rank Nutrition Lectureship in 2013 and the 2017 Tenovus Medal. Mike is an enthusiastic mountaineer, Scottish traditional musician and fiddle maker.
