Professor Mark Chaplain

Professor Chaplain is currently Gregory Chair of Applied Mathematics at the University of St Andrews. He previously held the Ivory Chair of Applied Mathematics at the University of Dundee where he was from 1996-2015. Prior to this he started his academic career at the University of Bath (1990-1996). His main area of research is modelling cancer growth and is focussed on a “systems approach” to modelling cancer growth through the development of quantitative and predictive multiscale mathematical models i.e. Systems Oncology, a field of research in its own right now which Prof. Chaplain has pioneered for the past 25 years.
