Professor Mark Blaxter
Leader of the Tree of Life Programme, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute
Professor Mark Blaxter is a zoologist by training and uses the tools of genomics to investigate the biology and evolution of a wide range of non-vertebrate species. Current research focuses on the origins and actions of genes and systems that may underpin parasitism. He joined the University of Edinburgh in 1995 as Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institute of Cell, Animal, & Population Biology and became Personal Chair in 2004. Mark remined at the University until 2019 after which he became Leader of the Tree of Life Programme at Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.
