Professor Marc Vendrell
Personal Chair of Translational Chemistry and Biomedical Imaging, University of Edinburgh
Vendrell pioneered activatable chemical fluorophores for high-resolution optical imaging of live cells and tissues with clinical applications. Vendrell is co-inventor of 12 patents and PI for several collaborative projects with industry. Vendrell has a strong record of mentoring junior team members, with several alumni holding independent positions in academia and industry. He has won numerous awards, the latest being the 2023 RSC Bader Prize. Vendrell currently co-heads the IRR Chemistry Hub at the College of Medicine in Edinburgh as one of the first global hubs for collaborative non-siloed research to catalyse innovation in medical sciences and accelerate translational outputs.
