Kenneth Baillie is Professor of Experimental Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He works as a consultant in the intensive care unit at the Royal Infirmary, and leads a research lab focused on translating clues from genomics into new treatments for critical illness such as sepsis, Covid-19 and influenza. During the Covid outbreak in 2020-21, he led the UK-wide GenOMICC and ISARIC-4C studies, and contributed to the design and delivery of the
RECOVERY and RECOVERY-RS trials. He discovered new biological mechanisms underlying critical illness in Covid and contributed to the discovery of the first effective treatments.
