Elected: 2016
Discipline: Cell and Molecular Biology
Professor Karim Labib
Professor of Genome Integrity, University of Dundee
Professor Karim Labib is a biologist who is interested in the biology of chromosomes and the mechanisms by which living creatures preserve the integrity of their genetic blueprint from one generation to the next. His research group studies the molecular machinery that allows cells to copy their chromosomes, which represents one of the most complex processes in cell biology and is essential for cells to proliferate and survive cell division. In 2010, Karim was elected a member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) and has been very active since. Karim is currently a member of the selection committee for the EMBO Young Investigator Programme, which aims to encourage the next generation of leaders in European research and has worked with EMBO to organise a series of conferences to inspire young scientists in Eastern Europe.
