Professor John Ludden
Bicentennial Research Professor, The Lyell Centre, Heriot-Watt University
Bicentennial Research Professor in environmental governance and diplomacy at Heriot-Watt University, John took on the professorship with a focus on environmental governance, in the Lyell Centre, Heriot-Watt University, following thirteen years as Executive Director of the British Geological Survey. He has held leading professional roles in the UK, France and Canada in the Earth and Environmental sector with a focus on resource development. He seeks to engender a cultural shift towards a more solutions-based approach at the interface of environmental, engineering and social science that responds to urgent global problems. He is President of the International Union of Geological Sciences IUGS of the International Science Council ISC and is a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
