Professor John Christie
Professor of Photobiology and Deputy Head of the Institute of Molecular, Cell and Systems Biology, University of Glasgow
Professor John Christie first joined the University of Glasgow in 2002 and became Professor of Photobiology in 2012. His research focuses on using diverse approaches, ranging from the biophysical to the physiological, to understand how photosensory systems operate to control plant growth and development. This research has contributed to major advances in the field of photobiology, including the identification of the long sought-after photoreceptor for phototropism and more recently the elusive plant UV-B photoreceptor. John has also acted as a session organiser for several international conferences and chaired the 2016 Gordon Conference on Photosensory Receptors and Signal Transduction.
