The RSE Fellowship comprises around 1,800 leading experts in the sciences, arts, business, professions and the third and public sectors, with links to Scotland. This range of expertise within the Fellowship places us in a unique position to provide an informed, interdisciplinary response to issues facing Scotland and internationally.

Professor John Birks
Professor Emeritus, University College London
Professor John Birks is an internationally acclaimed scientist who has published more than 20 books and 400 publications. His research achievements are in the field of Quaternary science and environmental history. This includes quaternary palaeoecology – linking pollen analysis and vegetation history with modern ecology; and quantitative palaeoecology – using numerical methods to analyse numerical palaeoecological data.
