Professor James Yu
Future Networks Manager, SP Energy Works
James is a charted engineer, a charted project manager and an elected IET Fellow (Institute of Engineering and Technology). He is the Regular Member of CIGRE (international electrical system congress), convenor of a joint CIGRE Medium Voltage Direct Current Working Group: C6/B4.37: MVDC.
James is currently accountable for the innovation projects delivery at SP Energy Networks. James has been the principle investigators for several flagship innovation projects at the UK and EU level to facilitate the low carbon transition for the electricity sector. He has been recognised by the Utilities Innovation Star Award in 2016. His team has also contributed to Utilities Smart Cities Award and the Best Utilities Award (2019).
James is a PhD supervisor and has been a visiting professor at various institutes, including Glasgow University, Universities of Newcastle and Manchester. James published over 60 academic papers covering electricity market, transmission network control, renewable generation and engineering education.
