Professor James Cowan

Professor James Cowan is a bioinorganic chemist who gained his B.Sc in Chemistry from the University of Glasgow and Ph.D from the University of Cambridge in 1986. He first joined the Ohio State University in 1988 as Assistant Professor and in 2010 became the Melvin S Newman Professor of Chemistry. James has made fundamental advances in understanding the biological chemistry of magnesium, and developed the concept and application of catalytic metallodrugs as a novel therapeutic approach. He is the recipient of awards from the American Chemical Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
