Professor Gillian Mead
Professor of Stroke and Elderly Care Medicine, University of Edinburgh
Professor Mead is an internationally acclaimed expert in stroke medicine. Her research focuses on improving stroke survivors’ quality of life. She has more than 180 publications in peer reviewed journals, and her work is included in clinical guidelines all over the world. She is the 2021-2023 president of the British and Irish Association of Stroke Physicians. She co-chairs the World Stroke Organisation guideline committee. She won the 2020 Lady Illingworth Award (Tenovus Scotland) and the 2016 William Farr Medal (Worshipful Society of Apothecaries). She also plays clarinet in the Really Terrible Orchestra and climbs Munros with the Edinburgh Mountaineering Club.
