Professor George Gao

Professor George Gao obtained his PhD from Oxford University and undertook his postdoctoral work at both Oxford and Harvard Universities. His group research is mainly focused on the enveloped virus entry and release and virus ecology, especially the relationship between influenza virus and migratory birds or live poultry markets and the bat-derived virus ecology and molecular biology. His research has recently expanded into public health policy and global health strategy. In 2015, George led the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention team in their work in Sierra Leone in the fight against Ebola, and is working to establish an African-based center for pathogens and tropical diseases.
