Professor George Boyne
Principal and Vice-Chancellor, University of Aberdeen
Professor George Boyne has been Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen since August 2018. Originally from Aberdeen, Professor Boyne attended Aberdeen Grammar School and is a double graduate of the University of Aberdeen.
Prior to joining the University of Aberdeen, Professor Boyne was Pro Vice-Chancellor of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and a professor of public sector management at Cardiff University. He was also a member of the University’s executive board and was responsible for student recruitment across the University. He was previously Dean of Cardiff University’s Business School.
Professor Boyne’s research interest is the explanation and evaluation of organisational performance in the public sector; he has acted as an advisor and consultant on these topics to government departments, the National Audit Office, and the United Nations. He has also obtained research funding from bodies including the Economic and Social Research Council, the Leverhulme Trust, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Welsh and UK governments.
Professor Boyne has been a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences since 2010. During his academic career he has published eight books and more than 140 articles in academic journals.
