Professor Edwin Constable
Professor of Chemistry, University of Basel
Ed Constable was born in Edinburgh and began his chemical career at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge before moving to a Chair at the University of Basel. He was a pioneer in metallosupramolecular chemistry and understanding how metal-ligand interactions could be translated into algorithms for the construction of beautiful chemical assemblies.
These ideas underlie his current efforts in developing a sustainable materials chemistry, with a special emphasis upon solar energy and photonic devices. He is a passionate communicator of science and scientific integrity. When not being a chemist, he can be found chasing insects and pursuing his love of macro-photography.
