Professor Douglas Cairns
Professor of Classics, University of Edinburgh
Professor Douglas Cairns is Professor of Classics in the University of Edinburgh, a member of Academia Europaea, and a Fellow of the British Academy. His research focuses on ancient Greek literature, society and thought – especially on the emotions. In 2018 he commenced his five-year project on Honour in Classical Greece which is funded by the European Research Council. In the same year, Douglas was awarded an Anneliese Maier Research Prize by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He serves on the Leverhulme Trust Research Awards Advisory Committee and Chair of Council, the Classical Association.
