Chair in Medicine & Professor for Acute Medicine

I am a physician by background specialising in acute medical care, with 40 years experience in the NHS on both sides of the border, including service design and delivery as well as research and education. I have acted as a clinical lead and external advisor to Governments in England, Scotland Ireland and internationally. I led a number a number of initiatives including the development of a new medical specialty (Acute Medicine) and the development of a nationally adopted clinical scoring system to assess acutely unwell patients. I have over 200 peer reviewed publications with research grant awards exceeding £22m over the last 15 years. I was awarded an OBE and most recently was the past President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and Chair of the Scottish Academy of Medical Royal Colleges.
