Professor David Benson
6th Century Professor of Pure Mathematics, University of Aberdeen
Professor David Benson is a pure mathematician, specialising in finite group representation theory and cohomology. He received his BA and PhD from Cambridge in 1977 and 1981. He has taught at the Universities of Yale, Northwestern, Oxford and Georgia, and has worked at the University of Aberdeen since 2005. David has written more than a hundred papers and a number of books around group representation theory and its connections with algebraic topology and algebraic geometry, as well as “Music: A Mathematical Offering” (CUP 2006).
