Professor Catherine Steel
Professor of Classics, University of Glasgow
I am a historian of ancient Rome, with a specific focus on the political culture of the Roman Republic and on the role of public speech within it. I have worked extensively on the orator and politician Cicero, and on the development of oratory at Rome as a genre of writing as well as a method of political communication. I am also interested in the institutional history of Rome, and in particular the Roman Senate. I am Professor of Classics at the University of Glasgow, where I have worked since 1999.
