Professor Caroline Heycock
Professor of Syntax, University of Edinburgh
Professor Caroline Heycock did her PhD in linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania and worked at a number of universities in the USA before joining the University of Edinburgh in 1994; she became a professor in 2007. Her principal research interests are in the field of syntax, where her research has typically been focussed on questions relating to the interfaces of syntax with semantics and – in more recent work – morphology. She has drawn her data from a number of different languages. In her early work she published on Japanese; latterly her focus has been on Germanic, where she has a particular interest in variation and change in Faroese, one of the two “insular Scandinavian” languages.
