Professor Anneila Sargent is Professor of Astronomy and past Vice-President for Student Affairs at the California Institute of Technology, where she has spent her career. Her research focuses on the formation of stars and planetary systems, relying on observations at radio, millimeter, and infrared wavelengths. She has been active in the construction and management of such astronomical facilities, especially as Director of Caltech’s radio observatory (1996-2007). Anneila is a past President of the American Astronomical Society and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is currently a member of the U.S. National Science Board.
