Professor Alvin Jackson

Alvin Jackson is Richard Lodge Professor of History at the University of Edinburgh, and is both an honorary member of the Royal Irish Academy and a member of the Academia Europaea. He is an historian of modern Ireland and Britain: he has written on the themes of union and unionism in the United Kingdom and beyond, with particular focuses on Ireland and Scotland. His most recent work, a comparative study of multinational union states, has been supported through a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship. Alvin has broadcast extensively and has lectured in many countries.
