Melanie Reid is a writer and journalist with The Times. Since 2010, when she fell from her horse and broke her neck she has written Spinal Column, an award-winning account of life with severe disability. She lectures to improve better understanding, awareness of and communication about disability. She supports rural community enterprise, loves wildlife, bird-watching and art and serves on the board of the Fruitmarket Gallery. Her memoir The World I Fell Out Of was published in 2019 and won the Saltire Prize for non-fiction.
