James Boyle is one of the leading public figures in the British art world and has made a significant contribution to Scottish culture. James spent 25 years at the BBC which includes four years as Head of BBC Radio Scotland and a further four years as Controller of BBC Radio 4 – which won six gold, and eight silver and bronze Sony Awards in one year. He has been Chair of the Scottish Arts Council, UK Civil Service Commissioner, Chair of the Scottish Cultural Commission, founder and first Chair of Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature and founder of Glasgow UNESCO City of Music. James was a Trustee of the British Council and has honorary doctorates from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Edinburgh Napier Universities. Until 2016 he was Chair of the National Library of Scotland.
