The RSE Fellowship comprises around 1,800 leading experts in the sciences, arts, business, professions and the third and public sectors, with links to Scotland. This range of expertise within the Fellowship places us in a unique position to provide an informed, interdisciplinary response to issues facing Scotland and internationally.

Our Fellows from academia, business and public service are among the most distinguished in their fields. We engage and connect nationally and internationally to share knowledge and tackle the most pressing challenges of the modern world.

Mr Ian Marchant
President, Royal Zoological Society of Scotland
Ian Marchant was Chief Executive of SSE, one of the UK’s leading utility companies and Scotland’s largest industrial company, from 2002-13. He is now Chairman of the John Wood group; Non-Executive Director of Aggreko plc, who provide standby generation to global customers; and Chairman of Maggie’s Cancer Charity. Previous roles include Chairman of Scotland’s 2020 climate delivery group; President of the UK’s Energy Institute; and Chairman of Infinis Energy plc, a renewable energy company. Ian is also an Honorary President of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and is involved with small Scottish businesses in the energy industry.
