The RSE Fellowship comprises around 1,800 leading experts in the sciences, arts, business, professions and the third and public sectors, with links to Scotland. This range of expertise within the Fellowship places us in a unique position to provide an informed, interdisciplinary response to issues facing Scotland and internationally.

Our Fellows from academia, business and public service are among the most distinguished in their fields. We engage and connect nationally and internationally to share knowledge and tackle the most pressing challenges of the modern world.

Mr Ben Thomson
Chairman and Partner, Inverleith LLP
Ben Thomson, once a Scottish International decathlete, has spent over 30 years in the financial sector. Previous roles include Chief Executive (1997-2007) then Chairman (2007-12) of the UK investment bank The Noble Group; Chairman of the independent think tank charity Reform Scotland (2009–15); and spent 8 years as Chairman of the National Galleries of Scotland until 2017. In 2017 he took up the position of Interim Chair of Creative Scotland. He is currently Chairman of the property fund management business Urbicus Ltd; Chairman of the Scottish-based merchant bank Inverleith LLP; and Chairman of the Scottish publishing company Barrington Stoke. Ben enjoys opera, art and most sports, especially skiing and triathlon.
