Sir Kirby Laing Professor of Civil Engineering and Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair in Data Centric Engineering, University of Cambridge.

Professor Mark Girolami is one of Scotland’s leading researchers in the area of inferential reasoning and machine learning in computational biology. In March 2019, Mark was appointed Sir Kirby Laing Professorship of Civil Engineering at the University of Cambridge after holding professorships at University College London and University of Warwick. His research in statistical methodology spans probabilistic modelling, computational statistics and the introduction of the differential geometric foundations of Markov chain Monte Carlo methods within Bayesian statistics.
